From a young age, he excelled in his intellectual interests. He completed his secondary school at New Khairtala High School, Jessore in 1987. He was awarded a talent pool scholarship for classes 5 and 8. During his school days, he was very good at sports and other extracurricular activities. He was a very active student during his school days maintained his performance in every class and developed himself in every step of his secondary education. He accomplished his secondary education with a great result. He stands 17th place in SSC examination.
After finishing his secondary education with great achievements he moved for his higher secondary studies. He got admitted to Cantonment College, Jessore in 1889 for his higher secondary studies. He continued his great performances in HSC studies and completed his studies with the 18th position on the Board examinations.
The journey of becoming a doctor starts with attending medical school. Medical school is typically a five-year program that involves rigorous academic coursework and hands-on training. Dr. S.M Shahidul Islam was accepted to Dhaka Medical College (DMC) and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), but owing to a China government scholarship, he was admitted for his MBBS at Tongji Medical University in China. During this period, he studied a wide range of subjects, including anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, pathology, medicine, surgery, and many more. He also spends time in clinical rotations to gain practical experience in various medical specialties. He completed his MBBS in 1996 with honours from Tongji Medical University in China, as well as his desire to constantly develop himself, after completing advanced training and experiments on acupuncture in China, he decided to work on the philosophy of Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture treatment in China. After that, he completed his internship at MG Osmani Hospital in Sylhet, Bangladesh. He returned to his motherland because of his patriotism, love for his country, his urge to serve the people of the country, and his dream of working in acupuncture treatment, even though he had been offered a huge salary in China and a modern lifestyle. Every Medical student has to devote a significant amount of time to studying. The workload can be intense, and they often spend long hours in libraries and classrooms to grasp the vast amount of medical knowledge required. After successfully completing his medical school, he graduated as a doctor but is not yet fully expert. He proceeds to a residency program in acupuncture and traditional Chinese Medicines, which is a hands-on training period in his chosen specialty.
In 2010 he completed his M.B.A (Master of Business Administration) at Darul Ihsan University, Dhaka, Bangladesh with a CGPA of 3.60 out of 4.00. In 2011, he completed his M.P.H (Master of Public Health) from North-South University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. After that, he won the Chancellor Award (President’s Gold Medal) and completed his M.P.H (Master of Public Health) at North-South University in Dhaka, Bangladesh. In 2012, he completed his L.L.B (Bachelor of Law) from Prime University, Dhaka, Bangladesh with a CGPA of 3.75 out of 4.00. In 2015 he started his Ph.D. in (Pain & Paralysis) from Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, and is still, continuing his Ph.D. studies.
While he was working at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) he was recommended to the Health Cadre (12th position) at 23rd BCS and at 25th BCS he was also recommended to Police Cadre and joined as Assistant Superintend of Police.
